And even fewer of us have intentionally cultivated a life that longs for it. But what if we told you that the presence of God could change everything? The same God who parted seas, led His people by fire, and spoke from burning bushes is still present and powerful today. He is not distant or passive: He is near, involved, and ready to transform every part of your life. His presence didn’t just change things back then, it still changes everything now. We were never meant to live spiritually dry, self-sufficient lives. We were created to walk with God in strength, power, and mountain-moving faith. So if something feels like it's missing… could it be His presence? This study through the book of Exodus is an invitation to encounter God more deeply. Together, we’ll trace His presence through the lives of His people: how He led them, spoke to them, and dwelled among them. And we’ll discover how He still does the same for us. We’ll learn to recognize His nearness in our own lives, and how it gives us wisdom to know who He is, clarity to understand who we are, and courage to follow wherever He leads. I won’t bore you with the details because in all honesty, we would probably argue about whose life is the busiest. (And if I didn't argue out loud I would argue in my mind...and win.) We wear this ‘busy’ like an honor badge on our chest. How did we get like this? When did we start believing this was the way that life was successful? Instead of feeling any millisecond of boredom, we grab our phones. Instead of subjecting ourselves to our minds thinking deep thoughts, we turn to busyness. Even when we are sitting in rooms with those that we love the most, we proudly announce by taking out our phones that something outside of that room is more important than the time with them. We sit with God for a checked-box amount of time because stillness and solitude with Him are foreign concepts that seem, honestly, like a waste of our precious time. What have we done and how do we get back to silence, solitude and true communion with the One that we say we follow? First, we start in the Word. The literal manual for life. The definition of success. The roadmap for getting back on track. The Bible is an open invitation to know God more deeply and therefore, it invites us to know how to know him more deeply. I wrote this Bible Study to help make that invitation accessible. It is a journey from hearing things about God to knowing Him more deeply. The goal is that through simple, clear, and practical engagement with God’s Word, we will grow in our understanding of who He is and how to live life with him at the real center- not just the center we created for him outside of our busy lives. My hope and prayer through this is that we will learn to create stillness inside of our ordinary lives where we invite God to move. We feel it in politics, our schools, our workplaces, our families and sometimes even within our friend groups. It brings us to our knees as we cry out to God in our pain and hurt. Should we try to escape? Should we build a wall around ourselves and associate with only those that believe like us? Should we stand tall and proud and proclaim our truth regardless of what others think? Should we turn a cold shoulder to all those that denounce us? How do we live in this reality? I have read between the lines of what people say enough to know this: too often we live as though there are two realities at work in our world- God’s reality and ours. When we pray we often pray as though we are asking Him to step into our reality and fix things or stop the suffering and then He steps back. Over and over again. Sound familiar? This is all the problem. We do not think, act and walk as though we are living in God’s reality and He is guiding, instructing and planning our lives in it. If we did, we would walk so close with Him as strangers in this world because He is our Redeemer, Savior and our only hope. Our reality is that we are living in God’s reality- not the one that we are creating for ourselves. We do not ask God to step onto our reality- we die to ourselves, shifts our minds and learn to think, act and walk as apprentices to Jesus in this world. Peter has a lot to say about these things as his letter of 1 Peter is one of the first that outlines the reality of the struggles in the church with society. But rather than telling us to walk away from this reality, create an entirely new one or just hide until Heaven, he calls us to live steadfastly before God with faithfulness, holiness and love inside of the world that hates us. Will that steadfastness lead to suffering? By all accounts, yes. But if we seek to genuinely understand this persecution we can face it head on with faith and hope in who we are because of who God is. The question is not: will we suffer in this world because of our faith? Because the answer is yes. The question is rather: when we suffer in this world because of our faith, how do we do it with a mind full of understanding and a heart of complete hope?
